ADELA GRILLO
Graphic Design
My work combines graphic design solutions with creative approaches. I am always motivated to storytelling; I tend to add layers to create a more complex narrative. Depending on the idea/concept, I like to experiment with different materials and techniques bringing new dynamics into my graphic design practice. Having a lot to do with my cultural and academic back-ground, I let the process inform the final result. As an artist, I am interested in themes such as politics, religion, cultural values, etc. Influenced by the political scenario of the 2020 elections in the USA, my current project investigates political propaganda, focusing on manipulation, misinformation, and indoctrination of the media in general. Through a process called redaction, selected text is removed from the news to form a different commentary. My piece intends to raise awareness in the audience for manipulation in the media, despite the political party that represents it. I want to continue developing work that is informed by daily life, as I want to continue exploring, learning, and growing as an artist/de-signer. The main goal is to bring awareness to important issues connecting the audience with a feeling, abstract enough, but still capable of understanding and following.
