CARLOS JIMENEZ

Painting

"Metamorphic rocks started out as some other type of rock, but have been substantially changed from their original igneous, sedimentary, or earlier metamorphic form. Metamorphic rocks form when rocks are subjected to high heat, high pressure, hot mineral-rich fluids or, more commonly, some combination of these factors."

The final piece, which is also called Metamorphic Rocks functions as a visual metaphor to the idea that we are in a constant process of change and each individual has a biased perception of reality. I would go as far as to say each individual lives in their own reality; and what that picture looks like for each one of us is inescapably influenced by external and internal factors.

The piece incorporates found materials that have already undergone a process of transformation as well as painted elements while forming relation-ships in between all the parts to form a collective composition. Within the work, I still explore the concepts that I have been interested in through time, such as the idea of filters, light vs dark, permanent vs ephemeral, chance vs control.
